A member asked:

I got bit by my 6 week old guinea pig on my finger tip. i got the bleeding to stop and cleaned it and put antibiotic ointment on it. i now have it covered with a band aid. do i need to see a doctor or worry about tetnus or rabies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pet Guinea pigs with no exposure to the wild are not a listed risk for rabies. If you have not had a tetanus booster within 10 years, getting one is a good idea to get one within a few days. This exposure is not high risk for tetanus, but it is an opportunity to get current.
