Your hormones fluctuate at the end of your cycle and that can cause symptoms as you describe. Though the symptoms typically resolve by the time your bleeding stops that is only a loose correlation. Bleeding can start a little early and can also be relatively brief, so symptoms may persist a little past the bleeding.
