One can have RSD in a limb, but I'm not sure you have this complex as there are no other accompanying signs or symptoms from your description. I would like to be assured you have no other knee pathology. A neurologist or pain management specialist usually diagnoses reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Treatment varies & multiple types of meds are tried.

RSD or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome does not present as a focal knee problem. Rather would suspect either referred pain from hip or low back or far more likely, local knee pathology. Intense pain in the knee could be associated with a local infection subsequent to injection or surgery, but also due to a new injury. See an orthopedic surgeon.
