Lumbar puncture sites seal themselves within in 48-72 hours. That said, it is advisable not to travel for at least 2 weeks after a lumbar puncture due to the various complications that can arise after this procedure, including clots, spinal fluid leaks and infections.

Usually, we would recommend avoiding flights for 1-2 weeks following lumbar puncture, assuming the absence of post-procedure postural headaches. If the latter occurs, obtain a blood patch and again wait 1-2 weeks.
