Yes and No. Most cases of NGU are sexually transmitted such as chlamydia (most common), herpes, trichomonas, etc. Most cases of urethritis are symptomatic because urethritis means inflammation of the urethra so it is almost always symptomatic. However, you may get infection but it is latent and in that case there is no symptom but the organism can be transmitted by sexual contact.
