A member asked:

35 female married 12 years. hpv vaccinated since 16. husband has had hpv that come and go on their own. have a 5 year annual with hpv test. will i test positive? always had normal paps. should i be worried for cancer? we are both faithful?

The HPV vaccine provides good protection from getting new HPV strains associated with cancer. Among those who were infected with these strains only a fraction would go on to develop cancer, often decades after infection. If your spouse had genital wart strains, these are not associated with cancer. Regular pap smears are a good idea regarding of other factors. I would not lose sleep over the issue
