The HPV vaccine provides good protection from getting new HPV strains associated with cancer. Among those who were infected with these strains only a fraction would go on to develop cancer, often decades after infection. If your spouse had genital wart strains, these are not associated with cancer. Regular pap smears are a good idea regarding of other factors. I would not lose sleep over the issue
