The rash may be related to a change in hormone levels at birth. Neonatal acne is a common cause of the described rash. This could be either neonatal acne or erythema toxicum...both are benign (not a problem) despite the 2nd one having a terrible sounding name. Depending on a person's complexion, any inflamed areas can leave a white spot (usually temporary) afterward. Please show his doctor a photo or if you are in the office, your baby's actual skin and they should be able to tell you for sure.
