The "trigger" is to promote release of the egg in a given cycle, and usually only one or two eggs are released in this type of induced ovulation. The reason for multiple "triggers" is that follicles may not rupture initially, and the ultrasound to determine successful ovulatory events will not be definitive, so repeat injections may statistically be more effective.
