Those infections are not subtle. They require antibiotic treatment for resolution. They do not linger in the body for prolonged periods of time.

The body defenses battle and get rid of many invading organisms if the immune system is intact as well as harbor them undetected to manifest as diseases when the immune system is low/deficient. There is still no way to predict what can happen
