A member asked:

I'm a hypoglycemic patient and i just started to breastfeed, i notice my sugar levels are dropping very low and fast after breastfeeding, i get extremely lightheaded, shake, dizzy. how can i keep my glucose stable and breastfeed?

Consider the breastfeeding like any physical activity. You eat what it takes to sustain that activity. The milk is made between feeds and the process is just the mechanics of delivery. Consider this like you would if you planned a brisk walk or exercise routine.

Complex carbohydrates and lean sources of protein are often effective. Before feeding have a healthy snack, and this should help to reduce hypoglycemia. The cause of your hypoglycemia should be further investigated.
