A member asked:

I recently got sunburn on my scalp in an outdoor camp. there are no blisters or anything, part of my hairline is just red. i am extremely worried whether this will put me at risk for skin cancer. i do not suntan. will this one burn put me at risk?

Data suggest sunburns before adulthood increase skin cancer more than those after, yet it is always there for some. Some ethnic/family groups are more prone than others. At least tis area is visable and you can monitor it easily. I wouldn't loose sleep over this one event, it will likely not lead to anything.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. You can reduce your risk of cancer by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure to sun, maintain healthy weight, get HPV vaccine, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless. Wish you good health!
