You may have misunderstood the doctor you spoke with, or s/he may have misunderstood the questions. Most HIV experts agree that after taking anti-HIV drugs for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), NAAT testing needs to be delayed until 45 days after the last dose of PEP, not 45 days after exposure.
