"Acute sleep apnea", is it the right term you use? Shortness of breath is not equal to sleep apnea which only occurs during sleep and patient does not recognize it. If you mean you have trouble breathing when lying down for sleep, that is not acute sleep apnea but it is orthopnea. If you are no longer in Colorado and orthopnea gets worse, you should see a doctor.
