A member asked:

Whenever i had an episode of afib, pacs or pvcs and went to er my k was low 2.9,3.2,3.4,3.5. i also have controlled hypertension. is primary aldosteronism possible cause of afib? also, is paroxysmal afib caused by primary aldosteronism reversible?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Primary hyperaldosteronism doesn't directly cause cardiac arrhythmias but the hypokalemia ( low potassium) it causes can aggravate any tendency one has for both atrial and ventricular irritability. Are you taking an aldosterone blocking medication like spironolactone medication which will improve potassium levels? A cardiologist can advise you about the options for the reversal of your A Fib.
