If "the implant" is a progestin type of contraception "slow release" implant, having it in place will be reliable contraception soon after insertion, but is not "100% effective". The implant may also produce menstrual irregularities, so if symptoms of pregnancy to occur, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
