I was laying down and took a sip of water. when i did so, i heard a loud knuckle cracking sound come from my throat. ive never heard it before. i already have a sore throat and it hurts when i swallow. but what was that sound? is it bad?

No, it happens sometimes when you swallow in supine position. The supine position changes the proximity of pharyngoesophageal area with the trachea in front. This is the reason why someone may have difficulty with swallow when lying down which can cause aspiration.
