Side effects to meds: Both metformin and voglibose have gastrointestinal side effects. Metformin typically causes diarrhea, but can also cause abdominal bloating and discomfort. Voglibose is an Alpha glucosidase inhibitor. It works by slowing absorption of glucose in the gut. Excess gas and bloating is the most common side effect.
