Blood test showed iron level slightly high had a further blood test and now its low. what causes this?

The iron level fluctuates and clinically it is not meaningful by itself. In order to detect iron deficiency or iron toxicity, besides a simple iron level, the whole iron panel which should include TIBC (iron saturation or TSAT is calculated from iron level and TIBC) and ferritin level, needs to be done.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it would have helped had you provided the actual values, Wish you good health!
