Why do i have a cold that makes me have a runny nose and then the skin around my nose gets infected?

This is not at all unusual for the common cold. Runny nose is probably the single most common of all cold symptoms, and those secretions and/or nose blowing can be irritating to surrounding skin. Actual infection of the skin isn't very common.
