Crackling ear: Ear infections can include a buildup of fluid behind the eardrum. See your dr if fluid drains or other symptoms are present or crackling is pronounced. Less commonly considered, the ear's three tiny bones that tap the eardrum to generate sound can become stiff (otosclerosis) -- miniature arthritis -- that can contribute to hearing loss.
