New chest pain is always worrisome and warrants a visit to a doctor. That said, if it’s not a heart attack, sharp mid-chest pain like you described is most often due to esophageal reflux. That is, acid splashing up into the esophagus from your stomach. Typically worse when lying flat on your back. Avoid alcohol, spicy foods, consider taking Zantac or similar. See a doctor if it continues.
