A member asked:

Why is the dose of excedrin migraine limited to two pills per day even though the ingredients can be taken individually at higher doses? two pills is 500mg each of acetaminophen and aspirin. the upper limit of both is much higher if taken separately?

The maximum dose and frequency for both Acetaminophen and Aspirin is 1 gram every 6 hours, with a total 4 grams per 24 hours. Caffeine can be safely taken with a maximum daily dose of 400mg. However, Excedrin Migraine has a manufacturer’s label that says the dose is 2 pills a day.
