That only causes problem when you take double doses for weeks when you have severe kidney disease. With normal or near normal kidney function the extra magnesium will be excreted in your urine so not harmful at all. One more thing, magnesium oxide has laxative effect so if you are sensitive enough you will have loose bowel movements with a higher dose.
