A visual aura or hallucination could be caused by multiple problems such as in the eyes, migraines, seizures, narcolepsy, mental disorders, alcohol or drug use, and neurodegenerative disease. An eye exam and visit with a PCP can determine further testing and treatment

He should have this evaluated by a neurologist. Auras can be associated with migraine headaches or seizure disorders . Either way, the presence of Auras should not be ignored.
