Cystoscopy is when a urologist looks inside the bladder with a special instrument. Itis usually done under local anesthesia in the office. Cytology is a test of urine done in the lab to look for cancer cells.

A cystoscopy is the procedure of passing a scope up your urethra to take a look at the bladder. Cytology is looking at the cells taken. If you were scheduled for cystoscopy and cytology likely they are looking to exclude bladder cancer or evaluate for any growths in the bladder. Possibly you had hematuria or blood in the urine, which can be a presenting sign of bladder cancer.
