Its called nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT). The parasympathetic nervous system is active when you're asleep, so erections sometimes happen in your sleep, and can carry over to when you wake up. Men of all ages can experience NPT. It’s healthy at any age and is a sign of a properly functioning blood and nervous system. Most erections will ease within a few minutes of waking up.
