A member asked:

Her cholesterol - total = 242, triglyceride = 433, hdl = 37, ldl = 135. she takes atorvastatin i. p. 10mg for cholesterol. to get pregnant she has been prescribed letrozole 2.5. will this increase her cholesterol and cause nauseated more severely?

The letrozole should not affect the cholesterol nor cause nausea, but normally atorvastatin is avoided in women trying to conceive. She should discuss this with her doctor.

Most medications to lower cholesterol & ldl are not considered safe during pregnancy and I feel she should discontinue atorvorstatin at this time. Purified omega 3 fish oil is safe& will lower triglycerides & raise hdl. A dietician or nutritionist should be consulted for proper diet for lipids and her pregnancy.
