It could just be : Coincidental. Need to observe some more unless he has other signs and symptoms. You are very much aware it is a public pool. Despite chlorine , there are still a lot of bacteria involved. May help him build his immunity if he gets more exposures unless the illness is just not worth it. You can discuss this with your pediatrician.

Swimmers ear/allergy: He/she may have developed an allergy 2 some additive @ the pool rapid otis accompanied by a barely visible rash or itchiness. If continues again, avoid the pool & c an allergist.
