The importance of QRS prolongation can only be dictated based on your complete medical history, physical examination, and laboratory results. There are many causes for this finding in a 12 lead EKG and most of them are not serious heart conditions.

The QRS portion of the EKG reflects the depolarization of the muscles of the ventricle. The normal length if the QRS interval is .08-.10 seconds. A prolonged QRS is abnormal & is caused by delay in the intraventricular conduction through the left or right ventricles. caused by problems in a bundle branch or certain fibers in the heart muscle.
