A member asked:

When measuring inflammation, which sed test is better, westergren or erythrocyte? or are they both good/reliable? i also had c-reactive protein, but wondered about these sed tests and differences?

I believe that several names of sed rates, including the Westergren sed rate, are all synonymous. . Although c reactive protein has supplanted the sed rate at some labs, I find it easier to direct therapy for some conditions like polymyalgia rheumatica, using the sed rate.

For all practical purposes, Sed Rate is Sed rate. There is no meaningful difference in the different methods. Sed Rate and CRP results need not agree with each other. Wish you good health!
