A member asked:

Had a ct scan. ot is noted that the right common iliac artery abuts to the left common iliac vein. os this a normal finding? what does abuts mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The term "abuts" means "occurs next to" and this may represent the occurrence of the anatomical location of the right common iliac artery "underneath" the aorta, which may compress the left common iliac vein, leading to May-Thurner syndrome (leg swelling, deep vein clots or even pulmonary embolism) . Get a referral to a vascular surgeon for guidance.
