Random loss of hearing when lying down can occur in the ear compressed by the weight of the head. This is generally an indication of movement of cerumen ( "ear wax") on the affective side, moving the wax to more completely cover the tympannic membrane which diminishes hearing accordingly. See an ENT physician for an exam and removal of the "ear wax".
