The doctor who examined you is in a better position to advice you than is feasible in this forum. Talk to him about getting needle biopsy rather than an open one. A skilled radiologist can remove most of a small node with image guided procedure without the need for open surgery.

There are multipple causes of nodules in the breast ranging from benign to malignant. A definitive diagnosis relies on the findings of a pathologist who will correlate the radiologic findings and examine the removed tissue under a microscope and perform the necessary steps and stains required to render that diagnosis.
