Varicose Veins & Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) are separate processes. Varicose veins refer to enlarged, twisted veins. PAD refers to blockage in the arteries, usually caused by cholesterol-laden plaque. This process leads to reduced blood flow in the extremities. The Plaque that accumulates in the carotid arteries is identical to that which accumulates in the lower extremity contributing to PAD

It is peripheral artery disease. Where the arteries, mostly in the legs are affected. It is different from varicose veins which is a dilatation of veins due to incompetent valves in them. They are different conditions. carotid artery plaque is usually not related to PAD
