You probably had bronchitis and mucus you see are plugs getting dislodged from the smaller airways. Keep well hydrated. You may take a the counter mucolytic to facilitate expectoration of mucus.

If you have discolored pieces of phlegm then your sputum is not yet clear. If you had a recent head cold the infection may have migrated down to your trachea. I don't think you need antibiotics at this time, but if cough becomes more productive of discolored sputum a course of an appropriate antibiotic may be in order. See your MD as needed.
