A member asked:

If ive had two pregnancies the first my placenta began to fail at 29 weeks & was born at 37 weeks and my second was born at 32 weeks, would having another child increase the chances of preterm labor and more medical problems?

All women with this history are considered a high risk pregnancy from the onset. Many would recommend referral to a perinatologist at the beginning of any subsequent pregnancy for that reason. It is possible a normal pregnancy could occur, but it would not be the initial expectation.

A few more details would be helpful and the birth at 37 weeks is considered full term. The placental condition may not necessarily occur again, but a consultation with a specialist is suggested. If you have underlying medical conditions, including hypertension and diabetes, these are added risk factors.
