A member asked:

What does a non reactive blood test result for hsv indicate? i know for sure my partner has hsv 2, although has never had an outbreak, and is referred to as asymptomatic. or is a follow test recommended or a false positive common?

If sex is avoided during obvious outbreaks, the average transmission risk for HSV2 is once for every 1,000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex. Therefore, many or most partners of people with HSV2 do not catch it themselves, even after several years of regular sex with each other. And the HSV2 blood tests detect over 90% of infections. You can be confident you have not been infected.
