Hyperreflexia with Clonus can be normal but should be evaluated first with spine and possibly Brian MR images to make sure there is no other cause which might require further attention.

Agree with Dr Gross, as intense emotional stress can affect the vigor of reflex function. So also, can hyperthyroidism, and this should be checked as another explanation. Certainly, issues in the cervical and thoracic spine should be excluded and your doctor's testing is appropriate.
