A member asked:

Can it take more then 5 months for a 4th generation hiv test to detect infection? or is a negative at that time rule it out?

HIV testing is 3-6 weeks after possible exposure, but it has been tested positive in some cases up to 3 months later. A negative test 5 months later is good to go. Now practice safe sex so you don't need any more tests.

A negative result with a 4th gen test at 45 days after potential exposure is sufficient to rule out HIV infection. HIV test window periods https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-testing/test-types.html
