If you lie on your back& lift your head and a bulging tent forms in the middle of your abdomen you have diastasis or separation of the rectal muscles. This maneuver demonstrates that certain abdominal exercises worsen the diastasis. Some physical therapists feel they can help diastasis recti. A tummy tuck operation is the only thing I've seen correct it.
