No, it is an antihistamine medication used for allergy, not an antibiotic or antiviral medication. If the throat inflammation is due to allergy, Benadryl may help. However, you should not assume that. It would be prudent to get tested to rule out strep B infection for which antibiotic treatment is imperative.
