A member asked:

I think i can only poop now while taking senokot. i usually took it once a month for 1-3 days max when i felt constipated(chronic constipation for years monthly to every other month). does it sound like a reliance now? how do you fix that?

You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948 Wish you good health!

Many physicians and gastroenterologists may disagree, but in cases like yours I often recommend taking senokot regularly if there is no bowel pathology and other tried & true measures to combat chronic constipation weren't helping. I haven't seen any serious side effects although bowel dependency is a given. As always, however, your physician is best to advise & guide you.
