You have a productive cough. Observation or treatment will depend on the medical history or associated symptoms. If you have no underlying pulmonary disease, treatment is not indicated unless you have other associated sx such as high fever, shortness of breath or chest pain. Viral bronchitis is very common, no treatment needed. However, if cough persists more than 3 weeks, work-up is indicated.

Provide a sample for culture and analysis as ordered by your PCP. From your description, an infection is likely and antibiotics may be used to treat pneumonia or bronchitis.
