You probably have tinea versicolor (ie, pityriasis versicolor), a common superficial fungal infection. It can be easily treated with ketoconazole 2% or selenium sulfide 2.5% shampoo. You should see your doctor for confirmation and obtain a script for the shampoo. The OTC products are not strong enough.
