Beta blockers are a good choice if your resting heart rate is rapid ( over 80). Otherwise I feel that a better first line treatment would be ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker combined with a low dose longacting diuretic. Low salt diet, good weight, no smoking,regular exercise, good sleep, no excess caffeine & alcohol are important. Withdrawal symptoms should subside after a couple of weeks.
