A member asked:

How long are steroids used to treat inflammation of the esophagus? is it safe to be on them for over a year?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Inflammation of the esophagus is generally treated with a proton pump inhibitors (Omeprazole and alike). Sometimes for eosinophilic esophagitis, if these medications do not work, a steroid product is used (usually from an inhaler) but not long term. Yeast overgrowth/infection is a common side effect.
