Recently took a pregnancy test that came back negative. instructions said to urinate on strip for 5 seconds. will urinating for longer than 5 seconds on the strip cause a false negative? the brand of the test is first response?

If you are testing after missing a menses, the test should be accurate when exposed to urine for at least 5 sec but more time is not a problem it can be a false negative if taken too soon in pregnancy.

Conception occurs within day or so of the sex. It takes about 3 weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG for a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. HPT should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully. Peeing longer is okay.
