A member asked:

My cat was sniffing my water and possibly drank from it or licked the top but unsure. i am prone to staph in mouth due to tonsil issues. i drank out of it after my cats vomited the other night . what can happen? i dont want to get staph of the mouth?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely that sniffing or even slight licking by a cat would transmit staph- more likely, if anything, would be anaerobic bacteria or strep or pasturella (usually an issue with bites) . Rinsing/gargling with antibacterial mouthwash would be worth doing but your risk of anything bad should be very low. See Dr if any symptoms
