PFOS is marked by pain at the front of the knee around the patella. Contributing factors may be muscle imbalance, changes in exercise intensity, wearing non supportive shoes, or excessive hiking/stairclimbing. Treatment includes rest during flare-ups, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories), ibuprofen, and special exercises by a physical therapist. Surgery is a last resort treatment.
