If the pain feels like heartburn, GERD should be considered. Discuss a trial of an over the counter proton pump inhibitor with your physician. Chest wall inflammation usually worsens with pressing on the rib cage and is relieved with rest, local heat and ibuprofen. Watch for signs of respiratory difficulty, cough and fatigue. If you have had COVID 19, a cardiac evaluation is indicated. PCP visit.

Physicians consider cardiac discomfort to be felt in the center of the chest, behind the sternum. Your symptom could well be caused by strain of the rib cage. Sharp, shooting or fleeting chest pains, especially with a deep breath can be caused by a pinched nerve or muscle in the rib cage. Lung causes of chest pain also may worsen with a deep breath & an associated cough is usual. ?Esphageal spasm
